Northwich has several different test routes that incorporate different areas and these routes are regularly changed and varied, so if the pupil fails their test they are unlikely to go the same way twice.

  • Northwich is built over a vast area covering several diferent places including, Leftwich, Winnington, Weaverham, Davenham.
  • There are several roundabouts in Northwich all with ofer varying degrees of difficulty, some are traffic light controlled and others free flowing.
  • Northwich is built on the Cheshire Plains which means that it is mainly flat and only has one or two small hills.
  • Pupils will also be tested on high-speed roads; we are fortunate enough to have the Kingsmead and Davenham bypass close by.
  • During the test, the pupil might have to overtake and perform a lane changes.
  • There are also some country roads that occasionally have blind bends and require a slower speed, and others which are windy.
  • With country roads, the pupil needs to be aware of the speed limit, but remember that’s all it is a limit, not a target.
  • Northwich has some unmarked crossroads on Boundary lane North which require a slow approach and good observation.
  • There are a lot of open and closed, also stop and give way junctions. Northwich also has a variety of traffic light controlled crossroads with and without filter lights where pupils have to be careful whilst turning right and be accurate with their positioning when stopping before turning.

The examiners will use diferent combinations of the above on the test routes to allow them to assess whether or not the learner is good enough to pass their driving test. All tests are held in a professional manner and contrary to popular belief examiners are genuinely not looking to deliberately fail anyone and will help those taking a test as much as they are allowed.

Below are photographs which show some of the tricker roads in Northwich as well as a photo of the Northwich test centre

Northwich driving test centre, please don’t visit if you want to see it and the roads   surrounding   it   please   use google   maps,   local   residents  are complaining   because  of  too   many learners   making  unnecessary  visits we don’t want it to be shut down!!

The unmarked crossroads – no on has priority approach slowly and check properly both ways before proceeding.

Unconventional roundabout in Cuddington – Unlike most roundabouts where we use the left lane to go ahead or take the second exit with this roundabout we use the
right lane.

A complex crossroad which is joined to a busy roundabout in Kingsmeade needs careful observation and good lane discipline.

Roundabout near the pure gym in Northwich, it has multiple lanes, junctions with and without traffic lights however the exits are clearly marked on the approach and on the road.
